Emma brings a practical, commercial and creative lens to the business of strategic communications informed by her experience in senior corporate affairs roles within high profile publicly listed companies during the 25 years prior to joining SEC Newgate.
This includes two decades in the financial services sector in roles at top four Australian bank Westpac, and the country’s largest insurance group IAG (owner of brands including NRMA and CGU). More recently, she shifted to the energy sector, joining Australia’s largest energy infrastructure company APA Group.
Her remit within these complex organisations has spanned responsibility for leading the communication of company results and announcements; strategic profiling, editorial direction and integrated content creation across digital channels; and monitoring and responding to reputation issues including a takeover defence, stakeholder activism, and environmental, social and governance matters.
Emma began her career as a financial communications consultant in both Australia and the UK, cutting her professional teeth by working with clients in a range of sectors primarily on financial transactions and investor communication programs. She also spent time as a freelance journalist, specialising in interview-led, deeply researched features and her work was published in a variety of business mastheads and journals.
All these experiences, along with her insatiable curiosity and appetite for learning, enable Emma to offer a unique mix of skills – an ability to distil and communicate complex issues, manage organisation-wide integrated plans to engage, influence, inspire action and protect reputation, underpinned by good governance and a strong proficiency in nuanced story telling.
Emma holds a Bachelor of Arts Communication from Charles Sturt University.
